Elm Street School Chess Club, led by fourth grade teacher, Karen Fullmer, and open to students in grades 4 – 8 will meet on Thursdays after school from 2:45 – 3:45 and usually starts in November. A healthy snack will be provided.
Students will be learning about the basic rules of chess, game strategies, special moves, working on checkmating skills with different combinations of pieces along with learning about algebraic notation. Students can look forward to a chess ladder this year where points will be given for wins and stalemates, and the winner will earn a prize at the end of the year.
Since chess is an extra-curricular activity, passing grades must be maintained.
